Early Intervention Program

During the years from 2004-2008, Early Intervention Program (EIP) attorneys were able to resolve approximately 24% of all the felony cases processed through Chatham County's Recorder's and Magistrates Courts -  a total of well over 3, 000 cases - in an average time of fewer than 60 days per case.  This significant five year achievement, however, has been eclipsed in 2009.

This quick resolution of appropriate felony cases has:

  1. substantially reduced the caseloads of the Chatham County Grand Jury and Chatham's Superior Courts judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys

  2. reduced the number of necessary court appearances for crime victims, witnesses and police officers

  3. provided some relief to the Sheriff's overcrowded jail facility by moving inmates' cases much more swiftly through our local criminal justice system.
